Sapphic, also known as Sapphist, is a term referring to women/female-aligned or non-binary/genderqueer individuals who are sexually or romantically attracted to women/female-aligned or non-binary individuals.
It can be used as the non-exclusive counterpart to lesbian. The Non-Binary individuals who are attracted (exclusively or not) to women (Trixic).
History
Etymology
The word sapphic comes from the name of the Greek poet Sappho. The island she was born on, Lesbos, is where the word lesbian is derived from.[1]
Sapphic is also a type of poetry comprised of four line stanzas of similar meter.[2]
