Gastrogender
Not to be confused with Foodgender.
Gastrogender, gastrongender, foodic, or genderfood is a xenogender identity for individuals that identify as or with various foods and/or drinks.[1] It is also an umbrella term for genders that fall under specific categories of food or drinks.
Possible Interpretations
Gastrogender can be:
- affected by food or drinks, including their texture, flavor, appearance, or feeling;
- only present when consuming food or drinks;
- has the characteristics of food or drinks, such as their texture, flavor, appearance, or feeling;
- an expression of food or drink aesthetics;
- connected to food or drinks.
History
Gastrogender was coined on the 1st of October, 2015, by Tumblr user jhendurs.[2] It was later reclaimed due to the troll-association of the original coining, on the 6th of October, 2019, by Tumblr user mogai-moth.[3] The term genderfood was coined on the 28th of November, 2018 by Tumblr user uncommongenders-deactivated2021.[4] The term gastrongender was proposed as a close alternative to gastrogender on the 26th of September, 2020, by Tumblr user mogai-monarchs.[5] The term foodic was created as a synonym of gastrogender (and mentions genderfood as another synonym) on the 16th of March, 2021, by Tumblr user genderheaven.[6]
Flags and Symbols
The original gastrogender flag was created on the 1st of October, 2015, by Tumblr user jhendurs.[2] The reclaimed version of the flag was created on the 6th of October, 2019, by Tumblr user mogai-moth.[3] The genderfood flag was created on the 26th of January, 2019, by Tumblr user flurrigender.[7]
The foodic flag was created on the 16th of March, 2021, by Tumblr user genderheaven. The meanings for the colors in the foodic flag are: yellow for xenic qualities and likening one's gender to something unrelated to the gender binary, dark green for plants that produce food, red for meat, and brown for dirt, wheat, and the browning of cooked food. The symbol in the middle is the symbol of main-belt asteroid 26 Proserpina, and is modelled after a pomegranate.[6]
