Mathgender is a xenogender identity with multiple definitions and coinings.
The umbrella definition is any gender described through or conceptualized using mathematical or numerical concepts or are linked to math, mathematical concepts, or numbers in some way.[1] The prefix 'math' refers to mathematics: the science of numbers and their operations, interrelations, combinations, generalizations, and abstractions and of space configurations and their structure, measurement, transformations, and generalizations.[2]
Mathgender was first coined by an anonymous user and published by mogai-archive on the 17th of December, 2014.[3] It was defined as a precise but complex gender where the more one explore its intricacies, the more bizarre it becomes.
Mathgender was later recoined as an umbrella term by Tumblr user rottenflags on the 9th of June, 2023.[1]
Possible Interpretations
Mathgender is/can be a gender that is:
- Affected by mathematics.
- Only present when thinking about, contemplating, and/or solving mathematical functions and/or concepts.
- Has the characteristics of mathematics, such as complexity, problem solving, and/or predictability.
- An expression of mathematics, such as patterns, numbers, and/or sequences.
- Connected to mathematics.

Flags and Symbols
The first mathgender flag was created by mogai-flag-central on the 14th of January, 2019.[4] An alternate version of this flag was created by felix-makes-flags on the 11th of December, 2021.[5]
The umbrella and newer mathgender flag was created by rottenflags on the 9th of June, 2023. The white stripe represents the mathgender umbrella, black representing identity, and the dark green to teal stripes representing abstraction, conceptualisation, complexity, and precision.[1]
