Shadow is an orientation for transgender individuals who experience gender in a way such that one feels disconnection or dysphoria from an existing orientation label, like a shadow. Despite this, one feels a connection to a certain orientation label. The shadow- label represents this simultaneous connection and disconnection.
Shadow can be used as either a prefix or as an orientation itself.
History
Shadow- was coined by Tumblr user ashix0trender0juice on July 19th, 2020.[1]
